In step with the new technologies in use in many parts of human activities, most of the world’s most progressive hospitals and medical facilities are now employing some of the most sophisticated technologies available. One of these in use nowadays is the latest patient tracking devices Brisbane.
This is actually part of the general use of tracking technology adopted by hospitals in tracking their equipments, their staff and most especially their ambulant patients. The point is to ensure that these patients will not wander off the facility’s premises. Some of the tracking gadgets use only very basic technology. Those used on patients are some of today’s most sophisticated types of gadgets under complex systems. These days, they are used mainly on patients (with dementia or Alzheimer’s) who can get lost. Some goals Besides the great services it does to the patients, the hospitals also aimed for the reduction of their expenses. The new technology helps in these because of its efficiency, speed, and ease of use. Nowadays, there are now systems to locate misplaced equipments and other hospital items that are critical (infusion pumps, wheelchairs, heart monitors and other vital equipments). With the more efficient work flow brought about by the smoothness of operations, hospitals save manpower-hours. This does not include the fact that patients’ lives are sometimes compromised if not for the efficiency afforded by the tracking system. Solutions With the current use of RFID (radio frequency identification), the issues of tracking and locating patients are now technologically-assisted. This means better efficiency, less wasted time, and better use of many other hospital assets. The solution is to attach RFID tags (or transponders) to anything that needs tracking and location. Within the facility, tracking devices inform everyone concerned from the readers placed in strategic points. Types The two main RFID tags are passive and active tags. The passive tags do not have a power source. It is powered by the locating reader that activates the tag’s circuits that has the pre-programmed information embedded in its memory. The active tag has a battery that powers itself and its antenna. There are several considerations in deciding the use of a specific type of tag. Passive Passive tags give the medical facility the ability to recognize and record when a tag is in the area of a reader’s antenna. (Antennas can be installed anywhere it is necessary, depending on the use of such and the size of the facility. Usually they are installed in ‘choke points’ like doorways.) These are used on both patients and machines. Usually, on people, they are in the form of a wristband containing a built-in RFID transponder. On machines, they are usually cards attached to metallic equipments. Active tags This type provides constant visibility of the people and objects equipped with the tags or cards. It is considered a listener. The system receives the beacons coming from the tags which can be programmed to periodically signal its whereabouts. Currently, the patient tracking devices Brisbane are doing excellent work in helping hospitals and other medical facilities improve on their services, especially to patients with memory disabilities.
