Currently, most of the modern hospitals and medical facilities all over the world are now fully-equipped with the latest models used in nurse call systems. These had been the updated alert systems used by the hospitals for their service staff, mostly the nurses and the caregivers.
With its new developments and other systems innovations, the call system for nurses had opened up to other new uses. Hospital administrators and managers have discovered that the system’s added data-gathering capabilities can also be used elsewhere. Manpower management The use of the information was applied to the upgrade of their manpower management, notably on the caregiver staff. They have streamlined and reduced the expenses and at the same time have raised the quality of their services. This is together with the added benefit of maximizing the capabilities of their workforce via better work flow. First, the system has made possible the better communications and interactions between patients and nurses. The technological upgrade had seen the rise of many improvements both in quality and quantity in both parties (nurses and patients). Old buttons Before, the nurse call systems button at the patient’s bedside (or easy to reach places) had been one of the most important tools for patients asking for assistance. The simple technology of patient’s pressing the button for assistance had been upgraded many times over these days. One important benefit with the system is that patients can directly call/alert their nurses. The speed this happens is very important in a hospital facility where a lost few minutes can be critical to the life and survival of the patient. An added benefit is the accuracy of the system with the patient-nurse communication without the involvement of a third party with important procedures done automatically. Integration In many hospitals and other medical establishments, the system had also been working with other electronic records of the patient. These important data include patient monitoring, patient flow, a real-time location system (RTLS) and patient wandering, interactive patient engagement, security and emergency communications. These devices are all servicing the patients better, smoother and faster. The system does not need to distinguish which alarm is opened or alerted. Each of the devices are personnel-specific (Each nurse is assigned particular alarms during their duty shifts.) Specific alerts are directly sent to the on-duty nurse concerned. The system is also capable to be integrated with other software. There is much additional software that can be added to the system. All of which depend on the needs of the medical facility involved. Add-ons The add-ons has apps for care reporting, a master visual station, master stations on different computers, an app to communicate with pagers, emails and cell phones. This is on top of the old connections to pendants on patients, the fire alarm and other security integration. Overall, these additional applications to the nurse call systems are mainly the expansion of coverage of the main point of nurse-patient communications. This time, the bases are wider, the services and efficiency level is higher than the old.
